# Your agent builds and edits datasets

Describe the dataset you need, and your agent writes it and publishes it once it runs against your data.

Your agent can create a dataset with `create_view` and change one with `edit_view`, both tools of the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the way your agent connects to Gatlas. It writes the SQL and the notes that explain each column. Gatlas tries the query against your data before saving it, refuses one that reaches outside the companies the connection covers, and publishes the rest at once. A read-only connection cannot use either tool.
